ThanksThe fact that after 3 days they "finally caught it" shows that they were hunting it therefore c is correct. You could say that they were "running after" it (though this doesn't have quite the same connotation) but "run/ran" on its own doesn't work (you can't say "They ran the lion").

It doesn't give me a good sense.It is better to be' They were hunting or have been hunting.Do you agree with me?
