Is the meaning the same in these two sentences? My answer is Yes. Am I correct?

He does not belong to any fitness club.

or

He is not a member of any fitness club.

... because 'belongs to' is not used with any reference to possession. It means 'has a place on the membership roll - that's where he belongs]' - or in other words 'He is a member'.
