- Does father have breakfast prepared for him, for tomorrow?

Although father is a singular subject, it sounds better with have than has. Please help me to understand the grammar rule behind this.

Thank you!

"Does" is an auxiliary (helping) verb. With auxiliary verbs, you don't conjugate the main verb, you use the bare infinitive.

"He has breakfast prepared," but "he does have breakfast prepared."

Thank you, SoothingDave. So sorry that I don't understand your explanation.

What do you mean by "with auxiliary verbs, you don't conjugate the main verb...." Can you explain with even simpler words?

Sorry and thank you.

After "does" (an auxiliary verb), use the infinitive form of the verb.

He has breakfast.
Does he have breakfast?

He plays tennis?
Does he play tennis?
