Hi, everyone. In China, academic study is all about theories, so I don't know if 'skills' is appropriate here.

Academic study is the foundation of innovation. It equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to bring new ideas to reality.

If this is your own writing, please say so. It looks like part of an essay or treatise, so I've moved it to Editing & Writing Topics.

Yes, I wrote these two sentences.

Yes. My son-in-law is an academic. He teaches academic writing to first-year students at a university. Apparently the university feels that many new students arrive with inadequate writing skills.

Thanks. Are my sentences error free? Which is better?

No errors. I see no reason to prefer one over the other.

Most of them leave with inadequate writing skills, too. A professor friend says the last time she got a well-written senior thesis was in 2002.

PS:

Coincidentally, I'm reading a very funny book about an Intro to Lit professor. He has a classroom full of students who refuse to read Hamlet because "It's stupid.":

The Nix
