I would like to make up two similar sentences.

(1) From ten years ago until last year, our soccer team had been winning most of the games. Unfortunately, we keep on losing this season.

(2) From ten years ago until last year, our soccer team had won most of the games. Unfortunately, we keep on losing this season.

Which tense, written in red, is correct? Thanks.

I'd use the simple past.
