Light pollution has dramatically diminished how much of the night sky we can see.
Is the word "diminished" here ok or not? In my opinion, we should say"determine how much of the night sky we can see" or "diminish the area of the night sky we can see"
Thanks.

It's okay. The verb "diminish" can be transitive.

In my opinion, we should say "determined how much of the night sky we can see"
That would change the meaning.
or "diminished the area of the night sky we can see"
Thanks.
That's saying the same thing, because in the original sentence "how much of" means "the area of".
