If you're using "food" in an uncountable way, can you say "different food" or you have to say "different type(s) of food"?

Can you use "different" and an uncountable noun after it, or it has to be a countable?

Thanks.

You could say, for example, I feed the dog and the cat different food.

If you give us some example sentences, we can probably give a better response.

You don't have to say different type of food in all contexts. How do you want to use it?
