Today, my teacher talked about her sewing and woodwork classes in secondary school. I had those classes too! I remember every time I used a machine to drill a hole, I worried that I'd lose my fingers. Sewing classes wasn't less scary because some of my classmates got their fingers needled with sewing machines. Therefore, when I was sewing, I placed my fingers far away from the needles. I rather sew terrible lines than hurt myself.

I think you mean: "Sewing classes weren't any less scary ...."

Also:

I'd rather sew terrible lines than hurt myself.

Or:

I'd just as soon sew terrible lines rather than hurt myself.

Frankly, it seems that you didn't have very good teachers if they couldn't teach you how to do it safely.

The machines ran really fast.😫
