My department/team/part usually uses some equipment to find a failure.
There are some famous makers of the equipment in Japan, so I have been on business trips to Japan several times.
It was my first time to check/check out my equipment building process. I arrived at the vendor’s factory and had a meeting with an engineer. And I checked out my equipment's condition/equipment condition and got a report about that.

====================================
1. Can you say "part" for your department or team?
2. I need to know about the other underlined parts.

Use department or team.

Perhaps:

The company that manufactures that equipment is in Japan, so I have been on several business trips to Japan.

It was my first time to learn about the equipment building process.

I examined the equipment and got a report on it.

My department usually uses some equipment/instrument to diagnose faults.
The purpose of my visit to the factory was to witness the equipment production process and receive briefing on the status of our equipment prior to its delivery.

Actually, it wasn't just "learning about it", but "audit it", but "audit" seems to be used only for accounting stuff.
Can I use "audit" here as well?

It was my first time to learn about the equipment building process.
=> It was my first time to audit the equipment building process.

Yes, "audit" is used for accounting. I'm not sure how you audit machinery.

You can audit a class, but that's different.

I must admit to being a bit confused. You somehow did more that learn about how the equipment is manufactured, but what that is I can't figure out.
:-?

I think "inspect" is the best choice.

It was my first time to inspect
the equipment building process.

An audit also means a systematic review or assessment of something, not necessaroly to do with accounts or financial records. For example, there are safety audit and quality audit. You can carry out an audit of a production process.

You inspect the equipment. You observe the process.

OK?
