What is the meaning of "coming" here? "Expecting" seems to be corrected to "expected" if it is to be an answer.

A long time coming is an idiom meaning: it took a long time for this to happen.

People use it when they have been waiting for something to happen over a long period of time.

These particular words only makes sense when used this way.
