I want to describe a situation where dead leaves are on the ground beneath a tree.

Are these correct and natural?

1. The ground beneath the tree was blanketed with dead leaves which were joined by the leaves that drifted down from the branches.

2. There was a carpet of dead leaves beneath the tree. The carpet was becoming thicker as leaves from the branches fluttered down on the ground.
