Direct quote, so cannot be altered. #1 or #2 below?

1. Dave said, “My wife's—Maggie's—pocketbook was stolen from her car.”

2. Dave said, “My wife Maggie's pocketbook was stolen from her car.”

If neither, how would you punctuate it?

Did he pause on either side of "Maggie's"?
Did he say "wife's" or "wife"?
