Hi there, What's the difference between "Cut down" and "Die down"? For example: The noise died down and silence fell. Or "The noise cut down and silence fell". Thanks for answering!

Die down means subside, fade away.
Cut down means felled, toppled, axed.

Now you have some words to look up!

'Cut down' can mean to decrease or reduce, but we say 'cut down on something'.

I need to cut down on eating so much fast food. It's clogging my arteries.

You could say you need to cut down on the noise, but that would mean that you personally need to avoid listening to loud noises (presumably to avoid hearing damage). There's probably only a limited context I could use this in, however.
