Hi teachers,
Could 'to palpitate' be a suitable synonym for 'to pound' in the following sentence.

His heart began to pound wildly.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply and the link. Then, another one could be 'to beat more rapidly than usual', couldn't it?

IMO, 'to beat more rapidly than usual' doesn't sound natural. Maybe something like 'faster' or 'more quickly' would do it, but we'll have to wait for native speakers on that one.

They're not exact synonyms to me- pounding has the idea of the force of the beat, while palpitate could only be the speed.
