Hi there,

When should I use a verb (be) after then in comparative sentences?
e.g.
- This House is bigger than that house (is).
- He was much better at shooting than I (was).

Your sentences are correct.

You should say

My brother is younger than I am.

But nowadays people do accept

My brother is younger than me.

NOT A TEACHER

(1) As a learner, you are correct in using the verb after than:

He is taller than I am.

(2) Please remember, however, that many native speakers drop the

verb in conversation:

She is richer than I.

(3) Yes, it is true that nowadays many (most?) people say:

She is richer than me.

(a) Sometimes, however, I and me are not interchangeable:

George likes Joe more than me. = George likes Joe more than he

likes me.

George likes Joe more than I. = George likes Joe more than I like

Joe.
