[Grammar] colder than

Please check out the following sentences. Which is acceptable?

(1) The climate in New York is much colder than that in Taiwan.
(2) The climate is much colder in New York than it is in Taiwan.
 
I would say "New York has a much colder climate than Taiwan."
 
(1) The climate in New York is much colder than that in Taiwan.:tick:
(2) [STRIKE]The climate[/STRIKE]It is much colder in New York than it is in Taiwan.
