1. Elevated cortisol levels prolonged by chronic stress require the adrenal glands to focus on generating cortisol.


2. Chronic stress makes adrenal glands to focus on generating cortisol in order to maintain the elevated cortisol level.


I changed first sentence into second sentence. Is it okay for me to use the second one?
 
It's not common to attribute conscious agency or reasons to organs. Adrenal glands don't focus, and they don't try to make sure your cortisol levels remain high.
"Chronic stress causes the adrenal glands to continually generate high levels of cortisol." That's all you need.
