[General] checking of a few sentences 6

Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to share with me your appreciated opinion concerning the following sentences?

1.1. It is not so easy to set things right. It will take some doing.

set something right = to correct something; to alter a situation to make it more fair

take doing = require considerable effort

1.2. It is not so easy to set things right. It will take up a lot of our time and energy.

2.1. We all went to the cafeteria across the road at recess.

recess = a pause or interval, as from work or duty

2.2. We all went to the cafeteria across the road during the interval.

3.1. In the innermost recesses of my heart I felt I was unjust.

recess = a remote, secret, or secluded place. (often used in the plural)

3.2. At the bottom of my heart I felt I was unjust.

at the bottom of one’s heart = most sincerely, unreservedly

4.1. He would talk a lot of the seamy side of life.

seamy side of life = the most unpleasant or roughest aspect of life

4.2. He would talk the unpleasant aspects of life.

5.1. Don’t be so hard on the boy, he meant well.

be hard on = deal severely with, cause damage to

5.2. Don’t be so unfair to the boy, he meant well.

I would say EFFORT instead of DOING. But it's OK
set something right = to correct something; to alter a situation to make it more fair

take doing = require considerable effort

1.2. It is not so easy to set things right. It will take up a lot of our time and energy. Why don't you just say "It will take a lot of time and energy." It sounds more natural to me.
