Catch wise = come to senses, wakes up, regains control :?:

someone caught wise = someone discovered what he was doing, realized what he was doing
 
One meaning for "catch up on something" is to become aware.

To "wise up about something" is to become aware.

Without all the prepositions: "caught wise" also means to become aware. It is slang.
