What is the difference between caress and fondle?

What is the difference between caress and fondle?

Oh boy.

Be careful with this one!!

"Caress" means to touch or hold lovingly, gently, affectionately.

I love caressing my girlfriend's hair.
She caresses that dog like it's a baby.

"Fondle" usually means to do so in a sexual manner. (From my dictionary): "charges that he fondled a patient during an examination". This is almost always used in a sexual/erotic context.

(I don't think you need any examples for "fondle")
