Is "Can you give some context for your recommendation?" a correct phrase?

I've only been able to find the phrases "give some context" or "provide some context for" so far online and wonder if the variation I'm asking about is correct.

It's not a phrase. It's a question.

I don't really understand what "variation" you're asking about. You said that you already found "give some context" online and that's exactly what you used in your question. Are you, in fact, asking if it's OK to put "for" after "give some context" in the same way that it can be put after "provide some context"?
