I am from the mid-west and have used this expression, i.e., "it was left by the workers so I cabbaged onto it" meaning that I took possession of an item or took ownership of it. When I used it at work this week, nobody had ever heard the expression before. Has anyone else heard this expression or am I by myself?:-?

I've lived in California for pretty much my entire life, and I've never heard the expression before now.

I am from South Dakota and do use "cabbage onto" in that sense. No one knows what I'm talking about either. :)
