A sparrow flew speedily to get in front of a thief, blocking his way out. (context a thief tried to escape)

Does it make sense, any mistakes in my sentence?

A sparrow flew speedily fast to get in front of a thief, blocking his way out. (Context: a thief tried to escape.)

Does it make sense and are there any mistakes in my sentence?
It doesn't make sense. A sparrow is far too small to stop a thief going anywhere.

The sparrow could probably hinder the thief escaping.

A sparrow is so small it can fit in your hand. So unless this sparrow has super powers it would not be able to block me (or anybody else).
