1) Before whitewash we need to get old colour off of the walls so that new colour can be put on the walls.

2) Before whitewash we need to remove old colour from the walls so that new colour can be done on the walls.

1) Before WE whitewash we need to get THE old colour off of the walls so that THE new colour can be put on the walls.

2) Before WE whitewash we need to remove THE old colour from the walls so that THE new colour can be PUT on the walls.
I would probably say "applied to" instead of "put on".

Forget #2 with "done". It doesn't work.

Even with my corrections, #1 is quite wordy. I'd say "Before we whitewash the walls, we need to remove the old paint".
