Have I made any mistakes?

Before the game started, Ben Collins, a manager who is still struggling against leukaemia, walked onto the pitch to greet the fans. He was met with applause, cheers and shouts "You're a hero, Ben!" He waved at the crowd, got tears in his eyes and went to the dugout, where he sat down and covered his face with his hands. A couple of the players came up and gave him a hug. The scene was so moving, and it looked like everyone in the stadium was crying and praying for the manger to overcome the terrible illness.

It's not terrible, but you could also say:

struggling with leukemia

Or:

fighting leukemia

Bassim, you're on a roll.
