What's an "ineffective mentality"?

Your mind or mental status not working well.

I'd say that a bad start to your day isn't enough to really affect your mental health (unless your mental health is already a bit dodgy). I'd say that it doesn't put you in a good frame of mind, perhaps.

Mentality is the permanent state of the mind. I think he "current/temporary state of mind" is called "mood/disposition".
"Starting one's day negatively" seems to imply that it is something within one's control when it is not.

It depends on the situation. If you're woken up by someone throwing a brick through your window, that's a negative start to your day and is out of your control. If you wake up and immediately start thinking "I'm dreading work today. I don't want to go", that's a negative start but one that you have absolute control over. Many people promote the benefits of some positive thinking or meditation, or "setting your intentions" for the day as soon as you wake up. You can't control what other people do or think but you have complete control over what you do (or rather, how you behave) or think.

I'd say a negative start.

Did you write that yourself, keannu? If so, please say so. If not, please provide the source and author of the quotation.

The whole thing does sound a bit excessive for waking up grumpy.

Can cause you to be ineffective and less mentally capable.

Mind you, that still sounds a bit extreme to me- we're talking about having a bad day:

A bad start to the day can make you less efficient.

I did myself. Please correct "online development" threads.

I don't know what "online development" means.

Perhaps:

Starting your day badly causes you to have a bad day.

I think it depends on specifics. For example, if you had an auto accident on the way to work and wound up in the hospital that's a bad day.
