I arrived at Rome on August 27.
How should I read the date?
August twenty-seven or August twenty-seventh.

In BrE, if I were reading it aloud, I would say "I arrived in Rome on August the twenty-seventh".

We usually omit the definite article in American English, but it isn't wrong. Usually I'd say "I arrived in Rome on August twenty-seventh."

If written "August 27", I'd say "August the twenty-seventh". If written "27 August", I'd say "the twenty-seventh of August".
