1. I arranged with a captain to work on board his ship in order to work my passage. Not typical meaning =
I arranged with a captain that I would work on board his ship in order to work my passage.

2. I arranged with a friend of mine to bring me a lot of bricks by lorry. Typical meaning =
I arranged with a friend of mine that he would bring me a lot of bricks by lorry.

Could you tell me whether my reasoning is right based on the examples below?

1. I arranged with a captain to work on board his ship in order to work my passage. Not typical meaning =
I arranged with a captain that I would work on board his ship in order to work my passage. A captain cannot order himself to do so on a ship he is in chage of.

2. I arranged with a friend of mine to bring me a lot of bricks by lorry. Typical meaning =
I arranged with a friend of mine that he would bring me a lot of bricks by lorry.
