Around the sides of it

I wrote this:

He approaches the cabin, shines his flashlight around the sides of it, then steps up onto the porch.

Is 'around the sides of it' correct here?
 
If he shines the torch (flashlight) only round the left and right sides of the house (as you're looking at it) but not round the back, then yes. If not, he walked all the way round the house, shining his torch on all the sides that aren't the front.
