What is the correct way to write ante meridiem and post meridiem? I see 3p.m. and 3pm. Are both ways correct? I just want to be sure which way is the correct way to write.

Use the periods (.) with or without caps. I prefer caps.

You might notice that even the greenwichmeantime site gets it wrong some of the time:
"It is after Noon that P.M. starts e.g. 00:00:01 PM (12:00:01)"
They are also inconsistent with capitals:
"Abbreviation a.m."
"Abbreviation p.m."

Actually p.m. starts at exactly 12 noon and a.m. starts at exactly 12 midnight. There is no time that isn't either a.m. or p.m.
