Am i using the highligted word correctly in the sentences?

1) I usually don't lace up my shoes all the way to the last hole.
2) If student is late for class twice, it will be equivalent to missing one day of class.

They're OK.

My suggested changes for #2.
 
To be pedantic, none of the words in your post were highlighted. They were in bold.
