Hi,

I read this on this website:

Parkinson's disease (also known as Parkinson disease, Parkinson's, idiopathic parkinsonism, primary parkinsonism, PD, or paralysis agitans) is a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system.

How do you pronounce “agitans”?

There are two problems with agitans: 1) it is Latin, not English and 2) it is medical jargon. So it depends on when and where you learnt your Latin. At school and university you were probably taught that there are no soft Gs in Latin, so you would say it like again. But if like mine your Latin is Church Latin you would say ajitans.

As for doctors, they can and do mispronounce anything, because few of them nowadays recognize Latin or Greek roots. But as a guess I would place them in the ajitans camp. And by the way Google translate has it as ajitans if that counts for anything.

Silver, are you interested in Parkinson's?
