Hi folks, I have no idea what Sophia is talking about in the following scene in The Golden Girls Season 2 Episode 9. Could anybody help me out?

Rose: Oh, Sophia, I wasn't talking to myself. I was talking to the dog.
Sophia: Naomi Burch used to talk to woodpeckers. A thousand volts a day stopped that.
Rose: Isn’t he adorable? I found him at the market. He was lost.

Sophia is saying that Naomi Burch had to have electric shock therapy because she was mentally ill (probably schizophrenic).
