When do we use "a large amount" and when do we use "large amounts"?

Thanks.

Do you have any sentences for us to comment on?

You're an English teacher. How do you teach this subject to your students?

Mike,

I don't have any sentences at hand. I'm assuming you asked that because certain sentences would fit one phrase and others the other phrase. Maybe you could comment on this and give me some examples if possible. Thanks.

It is quite an unwritten rule on this forum that the OP instead of the respondents should give example sentences.

Not a teacher.

I'll give you a hint. "A large amount" is singular; "large amounts" is plural. Can you take it from there?
