"A "F"" or "an "F""

"An F" sounds more correct but my spell check changed it to "a F."
 
It's "an F" because it's a spoken vowel.
You spell [ef] and that's why it has to be "an".
An hour.
An MP3 player.
An F.
An H.
An A.
But: A U.

Had you written a full word? A Free / A full / A fight? In which case your spellcheck is correct. If you had written just the letter "F", then "An [e]f" is correct.
