Teechar, a couple is singular but why are you indicating as plural? A couple go? Would appreciate it if you could briefly explain why go instead of goes?

It could be either singular or plural depending on how you look at it - whether as two people or as a pair.

I accept either "A couple goes" or "A couple go". They're both used.
