I've been saying this 40 ways to Christmas, but you don't seem to want to get it through your head.

What does "40 ways to Christmas" mean?

Thanks for the answers.

What is the context? Is it a lyric? It makes no sense to me, but song lyrics often don't.

No. It's a dialog from a movie. This director is angry with an actor -for he is mumbling during the reahersal.

I guess it means "I've been saying this many times", but I'm not sure. And, of course, I wonder what's that got to do with "Christmas".

It's not a standard phrase that I have come across, but your interpretation makes sense in the context you have given.

I guess it might be a play on the marketing phrase '[only] N [shopping] days to Christmas'...? (If so, it's not a very successful play. Anyway, I think your interpretation is right. ;-))
