True, but the question here is: �Foreign students should not be taught English slang expressions.� Does that refers for ever and after?? Once one has bettered his English and reached a certain level of proficiency then he should start tackling slang. init;-))

It is, but it should be studied as seriously as any other area of English if you want to use it well. For the non-resident learner, it is very difficult because slang is ruled by social and conversational conventions.

wha?....Slang is a major part of a language, people do not always use dictionary correct language, and as such without the knowledge, it would be pretty difficult to understand a lot of expressions used during conversation.

slang is a commonly used words on verious occasion by verious types of people . So with out learning slang nobody can understand/enjoy the meaning as well as beauty of a language. I strongly recomment for slang taught.

It would be irresponsible of a ESL teacher to NOT teach slang. Everyday native speakers use slang as much if not more than standard language. If you don't know slang . . . you cannot understand about half of what is going on. Like it or not . . . slang is here to stay. You gotta take the good with the bad! :-).

Our most wanted language for extinction is slang even though texting has never so easy and sociable with the help of slang, still our main confuse is as to why it causes so much conflicts between communities, for example the use of abbreviation has now created an almost new language, introducing portmanteau and colloquialism so judging by social media such as tweeter more and more people seem to have an acknowledge of this and has to converted it into context so that it can become like our second nature. In addition sometimes to close the generation gap an understanding of the language of the times is necessary to be present just like � without a match you can�t start fire .So why start something that we may not be aware of the consequences?
Should we take good from the bad and let Standard English surrender or are we going to stop slang and save our English?
